Some Tips For Your Florida Spring Break Fishing Vacation

With spring break right around the corner, tons of people are counting down the days until they get to go on vacation to Florida. Most families will be traveling to Florida for the theme parks and the beaches. Fishing seems to get put on the back burner, but it doesn't have to. If you can plan a day of fishing, there are plenty of fishing guides and charters throughout the entire state. If you plan to do some fishing on your own, you're probably going to be looking at renting a boat, fishing from the surf, piers or bridges.

Many of the beaches allow fishing. If you decide to take your family to the beach, why not toss a line into the water. The surf will have plenty of fish to catch in the spring and you don't have to fish early in the morning or late in the evening. The best times to fish the surf are during the tidal changes. As the tide changes from high tide to low tide and from low tide to high tide, the surf gets all stirred up kicking up plenty of food. Fish will be located in the surf and just past the surf. Typically, some of the bigger fish will be just a bit farther out feeding on the smaller fish that are coming in and out of the surf. For bait, try using shrimp, cut bait, or sand fleas. Sand fleas are great for a variety of fish and you can easily catch them along the beach in the sand. Just look for the "V" marks in the sand as the waves recede. These marks are sand fleas. Dig them up and put them on your hook.

There are many piers and bridges located throughout the state of Florida and it is very popular to fish from these structures. The type of fish you can catch will depend on your location and the depth, but many areas produce some good fishing for grouper, snook, mackerel and kingfish along with many other species.

If you plan on renting a boat, you're probably going to be fishing salt water. There aren't that many places that offer boat rentals on fresh water lakes. If you do your research, you can probably find some places, but there are many more boat rentals for the inshore saltwater areas throughout Florida. During the spring time, you can usually do well in the morning throughout most of the day if you are in a boat. Get the family out there to enjoy some sun and you can get a line in the water and catch some fish.

I know that fishing is not always a priority, but you can definitely make it work for a day or two and the family can still have some fun even if they don't want to fish.
