A new air terminal in Cairo aims to increase and better accommodate tourists. Egypt is famed for its pyramids and other ancient structures. The antiquities bring millions of tourists a year-and with them, millions in hard currency forming a major part of Egypts national income. Welcome to Cairo airports new terminal three, the terminal aims at increasing tourism and trade to the country. The new international terminal three comes just in time. Officials say Cairo had been at odds to meet the demands of an already growing number of tourists each year. SOUNDBITE (English) Ibrahim Manna, Chairman, Ministry of Civil Aviation: It was the time to increase the capacity of our buildings, because we reached the maximum capacity, we have terminal one and terminal two, the maximum capacity nine and half million, we reached this year fourteen million. Egypt built the new terminal under the countrys Airports Development Project-financed by the World Bank. The project also built a new airport in Egypts red sea resort town of Sharm al Sheik. The new Cairo terminal comprises a main building and two symmetrical concourses, or "piers," and totals 211000 square meters. The structures are linked with each other, as well as to Cairos old terminal two via skywalk bridges. The new design helps airlines reduce transfer time between flights, regardless ...
